Roshni Norum

My name is Roshni, and it’s pretty neat to mark my second year with Chanceformations as the Fitcamper

of the month.

I am 38 years old and have always led a healthy and active lifestyle. Two and a half years ago our life was

turned upside down when my husband was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that had effectively

destroyed his liver. The prognosis was bleak, as the only treatment option was an organ transplant, and

there were no guarantees about the outcome. Despite life taking on a whole new level of crazy, I

realized that I really needed to take care of myself, and Fitcamp turned out to be the perfect fit in every

When the trainers asked everyone what their goals were, I wasn’t sure what to say. I wasn’t coming to

classes to lose weight, or to train for anything specific. I was exercising as a way to stay healthy and

manage my stress. There were many days when the last thing I felt like doing was working out, but I

knew how much better I would feel if I did. My three weekly workouts turned out to be better for my

mental health than any other outlet I could have turned to in the middle of the stress and fear we were

living with every day. Fitcamp became a lifeline to a small piece of “normal” – laughing, talking about

things other than sickness and worry, connecting with wonderful people that quickly became friends

and were a huge source of support to me. It was like therapy, with the added bonus of getting stronger

than I had ever been.

My family was blessed the day we got the transplant call, and the last year has been a long road of

emotional ups and downs. As mom to three wonderful girls, I feel it is important to lead by example and

show them that health and wellness is not all about numbers and scales, and that the focus of self-

image shouldn’t be about size and weight. I want my girls to see that being healthy is about finding

balance in your life, and maintaining both physical and mental well being.

Working out with the Chanceformations crew I have met so many new people, made wonderful friends,

and found enjoyment in exercise beyond it simply being good for me.

Chance always says “You are stronger than you think you are” and he is absolutely right!
